Steensgaard is the second oldest Jersey herd in Denmark. The owner, Bille Brahe, of Steensgaard, a Manor dating back to the 14th Century, made his decision of importing Jersey cattle to his estate, when he had rebuilted his barns after a heavy fire. The first importation from Jersey Island took place in September 1903. Totally Bille Brahe bought 309 Jersey animals from 1903 till 1907, (11 heifers came from his neighbour at Brahetrolleborg Manor, 8 cows/heifers came from a herd in Jutland, and 9 weren't entered in the herd register). The last importation took place in June 1907 - 19 calves of which 6 died and the remaining part was sold to Hjuleberg Estate in Sweden on 15th June 1908.
