Very encouraging results are ours to report from the October 15th Spill The Milk Sale!
Tom Barnes and associates managed this good-sized sale. The number of animals sold was in the mid 80s.
The overall average would be in the range of $2227.
Milking females were in hot demand and averaged $2590 on about 55 head in that category.
14 bred heifers averaged $1535. 16 open heifers averaged $1587. With a top heifer of $5500 out of the average the open heifers would have averaged $1244.
The “1868” Jersey Canada true type model cow fetched a superb $6400 from a syndicate of supporters of Jersey Youth work! Proceeds will be divided equally between the youth funds of Jersey Ontario and Jersey Canada.
This was a good day for the breed with lots of new faces in evidence. Based on hopes of an upcoming border re-opening a few head sold to the USA. A number of head will travel to Alberta and Saskatchewan from the sale with a small number heading for Quebec! The rest remain in Ontario to keep growing the breed here!
We’re certainly moving ahead with vigour!
